Black HIlls

Sorry for delay in posts.
We have been busy here in the Black Hills.
(No, not hanging in our campground like most other folks....this place is nuts!  Constant traffic, noise, and they charge a stinking resort fee!!  Really?!)
Anyhoo, we have been on the move.
Couple of days ago we rented a car and drove through Custer State Park.  It is enormous!  Second largest state park in the U.S..  We drove the Needles Highway, and Iron Works Highway with it's teeny-tiny tunnels and amazing views.  Spotted buffalo, elk, pronghorn, mule deer, turkeys, and more wonderful views.  Walked around Hill City & ate some yummy food, then headed to Mt. Rushmore.  The boys completed another Jr. Ranger program and then we stayed for the lighting ceremony.
Incredibly patriotic.
Especially at the close when all past and present veterans were invited on stage.
Among them was a WWII vet.
Awesome.
By the time we got home it was 11 & then yesterday was another full day.
We saw the colossus of Crazy Horse.  Sheesh is it big!
Then headed to Jewel Cave National Monument.  Unfortunately we lollygagged too long at Crazy Horse & didn't leave enough time for the longer cave tour at Jewel.  Had to take the shorter one instead.  It was still amazing & beautiful down there, and yes, the boys picked up more Jr. Ranger badges.
Then it was back to Custer St. Park for a buffalo jeep ride off road through the park followed by a chuckwagon dinner.  Our guide was a 4th generation South Dakotan rancher (Roger) and he was stellar.
The boys were thrilled to have a real cowboy driving us around.
He was great with them--answered all their questions and then some.
Then this morning we were up early for a rock climbing class.
Once again we had some amazing instructors.
Kieran took to it like a fish to water.
Keenan took a tad more encouragement (bless his instructor Matt's heart) before he got the "hang" of it.
Kevin got in some good climbs too.
I did one, then found my niche on terra firma.
I learned to belay.
Can't climb unless you have someone to belay.
And now we're watching a movie, the boys will head to the pool (might as well at the mega-center KOA), and I'm doing some much needed laundry.
Tomorrow we leave the Black Hills and head to Douglas, WY.
