The day of Kieran's formal he was hit with a wicked allergy attack. Knowing he had a big presentation on Tuesday, he stayed home Sunday & most of Monday chugging allergy meds, cough syrup, and getting ready for his big moment.
Tuesday was the culmination of his Caldwell career-senior thesis presentation and defense of his position. In order to graduate from Caldwell seniors must research, write, meet with a content specialist, then present and defend a thesis of their choosing. Kieran's topic was the Negative Effects of Social Media.
His presentation was great, and he got through it without a coughing fit. I could see his relief when his teacher flashed the sign that he had made it to the 15 minute minimum. Several of his good friends came with us to cheer him on, and a couple teachers as well.
After he finished the presentation he had to defend his position and take questions from the judging panel consisting of five professionals plus his content specialist.
So proud of him and the way he handled it all.
Then we all breathed a collective sign of relief.
Thesis presentations filled the entire week. Kieran was required to attend at least six more and happily went to cheer his friends. I tagged along to a few more and am so impressed with these students. What an accomplishment for them. Kevin is looking forward to help judge again next year.
Eighth grade gave out superlatives & somehow Keenan came away with this.
(We're not so sure.)
We came home from Kieran's thesis presentation and packed up Keenan for a grade level field trip.
Had to be at school by 7 the following morning.
Normally 8th grade travels to DC for their field trip but this year (due to covid) the school pivoted to Williamsburg instead.
They hit Jamestown,
Williamsburg, and Yorktown.
And spent the day at Busch Gardens before heading home.
So thankful they were able to go on this field trip.
Was good for them to have that time together.
And somehow Keenan came home a fan of all roller coasters.
We were all shocked.
While Keenan was whizzing upside down, & around Kieran & I were getting ready for the State track meet.
Kevin had been out of town, Kieran had to be at school Friday morning and meals, drinks, snacks all had to be organized for the team.
Because of our family's crazy schedule I didn't get to go watch Kieran's Friday events. But thanks to friends, I got pic's of him & updates on how it was going.
He ran the 4x800 relay and the 400 prelims. And it was scorchingly hot.
Kevin returned home, then Keenan rolled in from his field trip at 10pm.
The next morning Kevin took Keenan back to school for a rehearsal, and I hit the road to catch the rest of the State meet.
In Mt. Olive, NC. Home of the pickles & on the other side of Raleigh.
The temp was still above 90 & the track field was astroturf (so it was even hotter than the track).
It was wicked hot.
Kieran ran the mile at 1:00 & think it was 93 at that point.
Very proud of him. True to form he was not happy with his time.
I was just happy he didn't pass out after the run.
He had the 800 left to run but decided to scratch.
Most of the team was suffering from heat &/or injury by that point.
We hustled back down the highway, rolled in, showered, grabbed bite of dinner & headed back to school.
Keenan had a choir concert.
And a special performance.
He & two friends performed Free Fallin by Tom Petty
They did great & so proud of them!
And then we all managed to go home and rest.
