As a powerful tropical storm.
Our forecast was for several inches of rain, and some wind, with scattered power outages through the afternoon on Thursday, but that was not what we received.
Instead, the storm shifted and came over part of our county.
Strong wind gusts, flooding rains, and possible tornadoes it our area hard.
And massive power outages.
We were driving home from school during this & I have never been more scared driving than I was then. Trees falling, blinding rain, and water on roads.
I was nervous to see what we would come home to.
After driving around lots of downed trees, we made it home.
We had no power, but we also had no trees down.
Both of our neighbors lost trees.
And we had a river in our back yard, as well as our front yard.
Thankfully our power was restored in a few hours. After texting friends we realized how widespread and massive the damage from Michael was. Over a third of our entire county was in the dark.
Two friends had trees fall onto their cars.
So many people had trees fall onto houses.
And power lines all over were tangled and down with trees, limbs, and utility poles.
It took Kevin over an hour to get home to us.
We were so thankful to have minimal damage, and to have power.
The next day utility workers & tree companies began to clear roads.
Schools were closed.
And we offered our house to friends who didn't have power.
For some, it took 6 days before their electricity was restored.
Saturday morning Kevin & Kieran ran a 5k.
Most of the talk at the Start line was who had power and/or storm damage.
Our runners did pretty well-they each took 3rd in their age groups.
And thank goodness we had power so they could go home & shower.
My phone continued to ding all during the show of friends who got power back, and Billy Joel played for close to two hours.
Worth every penny.
