March

We finally made it to March.

We enjoyed having Kieran home for the week.  Our early spring bloomers arrived & the weather was dry, but nice.
The NHL trade deadline came, and went....and at the very last minute one of our favorite Bruins' players got traded to the Florida Panthers (yuck).  We were all shocked & saddened by the horrible deal.
The pups enjoyed more time outside together.
And yes, if Brutus is outside without one of us to supervise him.....he still wears the mask.
Playing ball with Keenan wore the wee man right out.
And with March comes track season.
Due to a lot of poor communication and scheduling problems, the first time Keenan has been able to jump was at his first meet.

He ran in the 200 which is a new distance for him,
then because of poor organization at the Long Jump, the Triple got cancelled all together.
Pretty frustrating since he was the top seed.

Kieran has been busy with lots of labs, classes, and research but thrilled that in between all of that he had the opportunity to hear Andrew Peterson speak during one of their chapel services.

I listened to the livestream and it was excellent.  Look it up on the schools website & have a listen.
March madness began.
Some of us were more relaxed than others.....

Another afternoon was spent at the track in High Point.
This time Keenan ran in the 100,
as well as Long,
and Triple.

Still working through some frustration on lack of pit access for all of our jumpers.
And a friend sent this little gem from five years ago.
Just a couple of days before the world shut down with reactions to covid.
The wee man realized quickly that track meets last much longer than cross country meets.
And he's less than thrilled.
Saturdays in March mean Kevin will be working all day.
They also usually mean Keenan will have a non-conference track meet.
This one was over in Durham.
And after starting over an hour late, Long finally got under way.
Keenan got his jumps completed (they were ok), then left the pit completely frustrated.
Totally understandable.  The only time he has been able to jump has been at a meet.
Drills can only get you so far.
Praying a better solution gets worked out very soon.
As a parent, it's hard to watch your child get (justifiably) frustrated and know there is nothing you can do.
(Trust me, Kevin and I have been doing all we can on this topic for years.)
He took some time, spoke with a Coach several times, and his brother as well, then rejoined his 4x200 relay team, and ran his leg well.
What made me even more proud to watch was for him to shake off his frustration, get back in the rotation and complete his Triple Jumps.
He scratched the first and I was worried he would walk away, but instead he took a moment then got back in and completed his remaining two jumps.
They weren't his best, but they counted, and he snagged a couple of points for the team.
Better than that, he got some of his confidence back.
We headed home, showered, grabbed dinner with Kevin, then Keenan and I headed to school for the middle & high school talent show.
That was a great way to end what had been an incredibly frustrating day.
