Zion-part 2

Our morning began early (but not as early as Kevin wanted) to try and beat some of the heat and crowds to hike Angel's Landing.  It's one of the parks most iconic hikes and since two other very popular trails were closed, we knew the trail would be busy.
By the time we boarded the shuttle & made our way to the trail head, the crowds were picking up and so was the temperature.
Kevin has done this trail a few times, and it is easily one of his favorite hikes.
Me, not so much.
For anyone with issues with heights, this is not the hike for you.
I forgot how much it makes me nervous to be up on the switchback.

At least most of it was still in heavy shade.

I knew that I would not continue past Scout's Landing to the summit (exposed rock chains-no thank you), and thankfully once we reached the Landing Keenan decided to relax and keep me company.
Kevin and Kieran headed on to the summit half a mile away.

The crowds were pretty heavy and we knew it would take them a while to make their way to the summit.  See the blue & orange dots to the left of pine tree?
They are continuing up to the ridge line via chains, then around the other side before hitting the summit.

 The view:

 The successful hikers:
While we waited for them to return, Keenan and I enjoyed people watching and chatting with other hikers.  There were lots of people to watch.  We had no cell service so we had no idea how Kevin and Kieran were progressing on the rest of the hike.
So we waited, and snacked, and waited some more.
It was so crowded it took them an hour and fifty minutes to hike to the summit and back (a mile)!

Zoom in on this photo to see the trail of people lined up like ants to zigzag up to the summit.
Crazy.

Once they returned, we headed back down.
And back to the RV for some well earned lunch, and relaxing.

Our shoe pile (under the dining table) had a mild aroma by this point, but thankfully was not too offensive.
And after walking to a nearby restaurant for dinner and pie, we relaxed some more with showers and some hearts.
