Hadrian’s Wall-Sewingshields Crag

Sunday morning the weather was just wonderful as we left Twice Brewed (where they still didn't have gas  service back on yet).  We wanted to start our trek as early as we could.  The town pub at our evening B&B stopped serving food at 6 sharp and we had a 5:15 reservation.

We climbed back up into the Crags & were greeted with gorgeous views, the Wall, and a Roman Milecastle.
And then we came to one of the most famous sections of the Wall-Sycamore Gap.
This iconic tree and dip in between crags has been used in all kinds of movies & tv shows.  No wonder, since it is gorgeous.
Remember the Robin Hood movie from the '90's with Kevin Costner & Morgan Freeman?
This is the spot.
We were braced for lots of people & were shocked to only find a few others.

We pushed on-up and over, up and over.....
The views were just amazing.

And going up and over was no joke.
Straight up, then straight down.
It was easier to climb up, then down.
Then we finally got a glimpse of our final Crag, Sewingshields, in the distance.

The boys had waited for us at the top, and it was nice to take a break with them while we admired the view.
Legend has it that King Arthur had a Castle here and lays sleeping among the ruins until the British Nation calls on him for help.
We did not go looking for the ruins.
We had a dinner reservation at a pub to keep.
We could see the terrain change ahead & said goodbye to the crags.
These locals were relaxing among the ruins of another Roman Milecastle.
The mud continued to appear-we viewed it as a game by this point.
How long could you keep your shoe dry?
Who would get the muddiest shoe each day?
Instead of climbing up & over crags, we switched to walking along rolling fields.
Lots of fields.

The joke while we were in the crags had been that the terrain had been called "mostly flat with undulating hills."  Yeah right.
This was mostly flat:

The Wall started to become intermittent, but paralleled the remains of the Roman ditch.
Walking on a slant after coming down so many crags was making my feet protest.
The clouds started to pick up, and we were all ready to get to our B&B.

The boys took off with instructions on where to turn for the B&B while Kevin and I  followed behind.
We had a very long, slow walk down a big hill on asphalt that took a toll on my feet.
Thankfully we finally shuffled up to our B&B, showered, then shuffled over for our dinner reservations at the pub.  Good thing were made it on time-dinner was delicious and they stop serving food at 6pm sharp.

My feet were hurting & swollen and I was worried about our final two days of walking ahead of us.
Thankfully Kevin and the boys encouraged rest, and some laughter too.
