August

I feel like August goes by in a blur.
Over the past few weeks we have been:  finishing summer homework packets (Kieran), buying school supplies (me), trying on uniforms from last year to see what fits (NO pants or long sleeve shirts for sure), getting some good laughs at the too short/snug clothes (all of us), squeezing in some last minute pool time & late nights with friends.
And then there is Flopsy, who clearly thought she should have been able to participate in more of the socializing:
Thankfully my Scottie is way to serious to misbehave like that.
For quite a while now Keenan has been in love with all types of transportation.  A couple of years ago we started picking up pocket metro/subway maps when we visited big cities.  He loves to "play metro" and use all his maps.  A few weeks ago we were catching up with a friend of ours at church--long story short, his son lives in D.C. and works with metro system.  Last Sunday he brought all these goodies for the boys from his son:
The boys are thrilled & have plans to frame the map & hang it in the playroom.  The hat is Keenan's new fav.
Hobbes has settled in quite nicely.  Although he's still not quite sure what to do with his bassett friend when she starts chewing her favorite squeaky toys.
When we adopted Hobbes, we knew he was heartworm positive.  At first, he was going to undergo treatment while living with his foster family, which would delay his arrival at our house by 30 days.  That didn't happen.  There were delays in getting his injections, and he wound up coming to us before his treatment arrived.  Long story short, he finally began his treatment last Wednesday.  Kevin & I made some adjustments and now he will receive an additional treatment to up the success rate of getting rid of the heartworms.  It does mean a total of 60 days low activity & leashed walks, but hopefully that will be it for the big guy and he will get the "all clear" from our vet by mid October to be able to run & play.  Until then, he's doing a bit of this:
And guess who's running on the middle school cross country team??
Practice began last week.  A team pizza party was held last night, and practice continues 4 days a week for the next 6 or so weeks.  He's pretty excited.
Open house tomorrow, and school begins on Wednesday.l
Ready or not, here it comes.
